Location  Scout Camp Trail Hike

Where:  Middle Deschutes Wild & Scenic River

This was a first time for any of us to hike the Scout Camp Trail. To find the trailhead took quite an effort of finding our way through the sprawling network of roads that make up Cooked River Ranch. Lucky for us Dan had some familiarity with the area.

The trail started out innocent enough through juniper trees with a good view of the Three Sisters, but then began a steep descent into the Deschutes River Canyon.

Buster developed a problem in his right front paw, so Jeanette and Charlene volunteered to wait in the shade with him so Dan and I could continue on down.

The trail made a loop from the high plateau of Crooked River Ranch deep down into the Deschutes River Canyon, along the Deschutes River, around the point where Whychus Creek enters and then climbed back to the top.

This photo shows Dan climbing out on the return route with the Deschutes ' Whychus junction in the background.
