Location Eagles Rest Hike |
Where: Middle Fork Ranger District, Willamette National Forest |
This hike to Eagles Rest was the result of trying to come up with a trail that would be located between Elkton and Salem to be able to have friend Ron Noble from Salem hike with us. Also joining us for the day was Janet Schaller from Elkton. We met Ron at the Pleasant Hill Dairy Queen and then proceeded to the trailhead near Lookout Point Reservoir.

missing trailhead sign The trailhead was a little confusing as it looks like the trailhead sign has been confiscated.

Ash Swale Shelter A mile and a half up the trail brought us to the Ash Swale Shelter. Originally an overnight stop for pack trains supplying fire lookouts, it was rebuilt in 1999.

lunch on the summit We enjoyed lunch while sitting in the sun on the summit, but swirling clouds prevented us from seeing much of the surrounding area. Statistics for the day: 5 miles, 1450 feet of accumulative climb
