Date: August 24, 2006 | Location Mildred Kanipe Memorial Park Hike | Where: Douglas County | Mildred Kanipe Memorial Park is not a name that rings with any familiarity, but after finding this obscure Douglas County Park a few weeks ago, I returned today to hike its trails.
| | Driving into the Day Use Parking Lot, I was spotted by a group of Wild Turkeys, who quickly made their way to the cover of the trees.
| | From the parking lot I headed down through old orchards of nut and apple trees to the pond. From there I crossed the fence and took a northern route along the creek and up into the oak covered hills. At the top I took a trail into the tall timber, which eventually led, down and across Bachelor Creek. Feeling ready for lunch I decided to look for a good spot. A minute later I happened on this lone picnic table.
| | I had the whole trail system to myself, save for the last 10 minutes when three equestrians came by.
