Location  Metolius River Hike

Where:  Deschutes National Forest

Jeanette and I took off on Sunday afternoon in our Safari Trek to the Metolius River for a few days of hiking. We set up at Camp Sherman Campground, which ironically is the first campground I visited on the Metolius 35 years ago. We enjoyed an evening stroll along the river both before and after dinner. On Monday morning Ron Noble joined us, and he drove us to Wizard Falls Hatchery for our first days hike. We stopped in to say hi to our friends at the hatchery, and then started hiking down river on the West Metolius Trail.

The warm of the morning sun was very welcomed after early morning temperatures of 26 degrees.

At The Nature Conservancy's property line, the trail takes a turn to the left and climbs away from the river up into the woods, where it skirts a swampy area before rejoining the river.

The West Metolius Trail joins the road at Bridge 99, which we crossed and stopped for lunch at Lower Campground, before hiking back to the hatchery on the East Metolius River Trail.
