Flower:Hawthorn, Common
Genus / Species:Crataegus monogyna
Notes:Also known as Red Hawthorn and European Hawthorn, this European species has escaped cultivation and is now widespread along fencerows and ditches. The fruit is edible as is our native Black Hawthorn and Columbia Hawthorn. The Common Hawthorn can easily be distinguished from the other two species by its leaves which are deeply loped.
