Location  Taylor/Carter Dunes Trails Hike

Where:  Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area

This hiking/birding trip was a reminder to Jeanette and me of how fortunate we are to live in Elkton with its close proximity to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. This was one of the many factors that played a part in our decision seven years ago to move to Elkton. The many lakes, trails and beaches of this recreation area are only an hour away for us from our home in Elkton. Because of the low elevation, they are available year around. We have found ourselves escaping the inland heat in summer to enjoy the cooler oceanside temps, and in the winter we have enjoyed the milder temps for hiking. On this trip I picked a loop route that we have used several times before that serves as a good combination hiking & birding route. We parked at the Taylor Dunes Trailhead, and took the Taylor Dunes Trail out to where it joins the Carter Dunes Trail which we then took to the Carter Lake Campground and then back on the road to our car.
