Location  Serendipity

Where:  Bandon, Oregon

We were leaving Bullards Beach State Park, heading south on Hwy 101 towards Brookings when I noticed a sign for a county park 2 miles to the left. I decided, what the heck, let's check it out. In route we were surprised when we noticed a brand new wildlife refuge, the Ni-les'tun Unit of the Bandon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge. We pulled over and parked in the parking lot at an observation point, got out and started to investigate, walked up to the office, talked with the ranger, took some photos, and identified some birds. We understand from the ranger that the county park is just a boat launch, which we didn't bother to look for. The amazing thing is we found a new wildlife refuge, which was more than what we were looking for.
