Location  Crack in the Wall Hike

Where:  Sara Park - Lake Havasu, Arizona

It was Saturday and our day off and we selected a hike to combine with grocery shopping in Lake Havasu City. We choose Sara Park as it had been recommended to us by several people in the last few years. A particular trail, the Crack in the Wall Trail has always been mentioned as outstanding.

The trailhead was busy with cars and everyone seemed to be headed down the main wash although there were no signs to indicate any kind of a trail.

Eventually we came across some signs with yellow lettering indicating the mileage. We also came across a young person with a dog who confirmed that we were on the right route and we could just continue down this wash and down a fun rock slide and eventually get to the lake.

The wash narrowed to a canyon with steep walls making sense as the Crack in the Wall. The bottom became a jumble of rocks that we clambered over as we descended deeper into the crack. We suddenly came to an abrupt stop at the top of a ten foot dry falls, apparently 'the slide'.

stopped by "the slide"

Jeanette was sure we could just slide down as the person had suggested, but it was so vertical I thought it would be more of a free fall, with a pretty easy chance for broken bones. I could image the headlines, 'elderly couple trapped overnight with broken legs have to be rescued'. Eventually I won out and we retraced our steps.

On the way back out we were rewarded with the sight of a small heard of Big Horn Sheep completing our day.
