One of my Elkton friends, Michael Garguilo, went with me on this survey hike. It was a perfect day weather wise, with the temperatures just right for hiking.

Michael at the trailhead I had already surveyed the lower sections of the Crawfish Trail, so this was an opportunity to finish the last connecting upper section of the Crawfish Trail and its connection to the Knott Trail.

Jim at the Crawfish Trail Junction We hiked almost to the intersection of the Adams Mountain Trail before having to turn around because of time. Clouds hung in most of the day obscuring good views of the surrounding area.

Michael looking to Bohemia Mountain Besides trail survey work we got in a little birding too. While hiking back I spotted a Dark-eyed Junco dart away from the trails edge. I remembered that they often make their nest in the trail bank. We stopped to investigate and Michael spotted their eggs. We also enjoyed listening to a pair of Varied Thrush in some kind of mating ritual calls. |
