Jeanette on Whitewater Road

With 6 to 12 inches of snow in Salem, I didn't figure I would have to drive far to find a good place to ski. In fact I was planning on only going to Shellburg Falls near Mehama. But on our way we discovered at about Aumsville there was only about 1 inch of snow, the same at Stayton, Mill City, and Gates, it wasn't until we got to Detroit that we were in over 10 inches of roadside snow. So, after Detroit we took advantage of the first available good road to ski, which turned out to be Whitewater Road.

Dan & Jeanette and elk tracks

Skiing with us today was Dan Lawry. We were quite impressed with the elk tracks that we found on the road, and in fact which we ended up following the rest of the day.

Thunderbird Lodge

We detoured off of Whitewater Road to show Dan the Chemeketan's Thunderbird Lodge. Bells began to ring in Jeanette's mind of an overnight trip in the near future. So check back soon, as there is a good chance you will see more photos of Thunderbird Lodge.
