Location  Three Creeks Snow Camping

Where:  Deschutes National Forest

Kelly Freels and I arrive at Black Springs at 10:00 and decide to ski from there because of the snow on the road. The weather is beautifully sunny and we are underway by 10:30, and after about an hour I am in just my shorts.

At snow gate we take the cross-country ski route. Shortly after 4:00pm we stop to make camp. We have been breaking trail uphill all afternoon.

Night is so cold it freezes Kelly's wine. Next day we make it to Three Creeks Lake by noon. Wind coming down off the ridge forces us to finish lunch in the cover of the trees, at which time it begins to rain so decide to ski back to Three Creeks Meadow to camp or possibly on out. A snowmobiler stops and tells us about an old trappers cabin at the upper end of the meadows. That sounds great and we are able to find it. After setting up house we go exploring and find our way to Little Thee Creeks Lake. Night is nice and dry; we share with a couple of mice. Going out the weather is blowing but it is all down hill. Leave cabin at 9:00 and after spending an hour helping a couple dig out their car. Back to Black Pine Spring by 12:00
