Location Memaloose Hills Hike |
Where: Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area |
..."This is a 'Friends of the Columbia Gorge' hike, led by Nancy Russell and Russ Jolley. We met at the Gateway Park & Ride at 8:00am and then again at the east bound Memaloose Rest Area 9:30am. We started up an old road and hiked up and across Rd 30 and then up Hudson Hill, which bears that name because it once had a Hudson brand light for navigation on it. It is to be renamed McClure." |
hikers on Hudson Hill ..."Then on to Castilleja Hill. Major fields of Arrow Leaf Balsamroot combined with large Indian Paintbrush, and Giant Lupine."
hikers on Castilleja Hill ..."After lunch in a protected area, hike some open grassland to an unnamed hill on Nancy Russell's 40 acre property. Then a descent back, only to be caught in a tremendous rain and hail storm just after crossing Hwy 30. On back to car. Stopped for ice cream in Mosier @ Hwy 30." Hiking distance 6 miles, duration 4:15, cumulative climb 1300 ft.
