Flower: | Oregon Grape, Tall | Reference: | Trip Journal Entry | Family: | Barberry | Genus / Species: | Berberis aquifolium | Notes: | This is Oregon's state flower, and is the taller of our two common species of Berberis. Its grape-like berries can be used to make jelly, and its stems were used by native americans to make a yellow dye. Lewis & Clark described both species of Oregon Grape in great detail, but because it was winter they knew nothing of the frute or flower of either.
