Common Name:Bear, Black
Scientific Name:Ursus americanus
Family:Ursidae
Area:North Bank Habitat Management Area - Roseburg, Oregon
Date:October 18, 2007

This bear rose up to look at me from its foraging on the ground. I was not sure what it had been feeding on, my first guess was blackberries, but a quick look at the site did not show any blackberries. Later in the day while walking through a grove of oak trees I noticed a large pile of scat. I suddenly realized that the bear was probably feeding on the abundant oak acorns that are now on the ground.
