Common Name:Woolly Bear
Scientific Name:Isia isabella or Pyrracatia isabella
Area:Cape Perpetua Visistors Center, Oregon Coast
Date:November 4, 2004

This caterpillar is a very common site on the trails and roads of the Pacific Northwest in the fall. It is the larval form of the Isabella Tiger Moth. The connection between the larva and the adult is hard to make in that the adult moth is nocturnal, as are most moths.
