One of he closest hiking areas to my home in Elkton is the North Bank Habitat Management Area east of Wilbur, and spring is the perfect time to hike there. On this trip Janet Schaller joined Jeanette and I on a hike of the Talbot Trail to what Bill Sullivan has dubbed, Whistlers Overlook.

| view from the Talburt Trail This trail climbs and switchbacks up the North Bank of the North Umpqua River to give outstanding views of the river's winding route and Whistler's Bend, a Douglas County Park.

| view from Whistlers Overlook It was a good day for wildflowers, a few that I got good photos were: Redstem Ceanothus, Cluster Lily, Yellow Salsify, and most abundant, Oregon Iris.

| Oregon Iris At the end of the hike we returned to Wilbur and the Whistle Stop for iced tea where we had parked our motor home. Jeanette and I then went on to Roseburg for gas and groceries before heading up the North Umpqua to Lemolo Lake. Janet settled for groceries and a return to Elkton. |
