Location  Stewart State Park Camping

Where:  Lost Creek Lake

Jeanette and I took off in our motor home for a few days of hiking and camping at Stewart State Park on Lost Creek Lake. I beg the leniency of my readers in my broad use of the term 'camping', as I am well aware that staying in a motor home with a furnace and air conditioning, hot and cold running water with a shower, refrigerator, microwave, and TV may not fit some folk's image of camping. But, it does take place in a 'campground'!

Stewart State Park has some 11 miles of trail within the park for hiking, and with addition trails surrounding Lost Creek Lake the total is 30 miles of trail. We started out Wednesday afternoon exploring trails from the campground and ended up hiking to the marina.

On Thursday we took the car to hike the Viewpoint Mike Trail. We had hiked it on Saturday with the Friends of the Umpqua in the rain, and were anxious to hike it in good weather and take more time for photos of the wildflowers.

Friday our hiking time was cut a little short in order to take Buster to the vet for a check-up for several ticks. We did get in some nice hiking in the afternoon at McGregor Park, Riverside Park, and Cole M. Rivers Fish Hatchery.

Saturday morning we pulled out and headed on up the Rogue River, stopping at Mt Thielsen Viewpoint for photos. The road into Diamond Lake still had snow so we continued on down the Umpqua River stopping for lunch and a short hike up to Susan Creek Falls. The rest of the afternoon and evening were spent relaxing at Elk Haven RV Resort before catching the Glide Wildflower Show on Sunday morning.
