Location  Craig Lake Hike

Where:  Mt Jefferson Wilderness

Bill Geibel's hike to Craig Lake was too much of a temptation for me, so I took a day off of packing for my up coming move to hike. We left a shuttle car at Lost Lake and started the hike from the parking lot at the old Santiam Lodge, taking the Santiam Lodge Trail up to the Skyline Trail.

Bill and Beargrass

The B & B Complex Fire of 2003 has left the area more open and the Beargrass is thriving. After a difficult scramble up to Craig Lake we were rewarded with great views of Craig Lake and Three Fingered Jack.

On our route back, Bill led us cross country down to Lost Lake, which included a section of the Hogg railroad bed built in the late 1880s.

Statistics for the day: 1040 ft accumulative climb, 1780 ft accumalative descent.
