Location  Klickitat Trail Bike Ride

Where:  Klickitat County, Washington

Normally the Trip Journal is a report on trips I have taken personally, but here I am making an exception for several reasons. One is, I stayed home and worked in the yard. Secondly, this is a trail that has a lot of recreational potential and needs a lot more attention. But most importantly, I am able to do this due to the willingness of David Melody to share his photos and the efforts of Jim Minick to send these on. All photos where taken by David Melody and are of the Swale Canyon section.

Here is the scoop on the trip. It was a mountain bike ride of the entire length, 31 miles, of the Klickitat Trail, sponsored by the Klickitat Trail Conservancy. The riders met in Lyle across from the Greg Colt Realty at 9:15 on Saturday May 31st. Then they car shuttled to Warwick where they rode down the Klickitat Trail back to Lyle.

The Klickitat Trail, once a railroad track, was purchased by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy in 1993 and given to Washington State Parks. The Forest Service is in the process of considering management plans.
