Location  McDonald Forest Hike

Where:  McDonald-Dunn Forest

This was a Chemeketan hike led by Jim Reichwein of Corvallis in the South McDonald Forest to seek out wildflowers. Our hike began at the Oregon State University's Oak Creek Laboratory where we took the Homestead Trail. We were finding and discussing wildflowers immediately beginning with Candy Flower, and Miners Lettuce. Then our attention was caught by some very tall Delphiniums and some Giant Trilliums. In all we identified of 15 different wildflowers during our hike. Our 6 mile route continued onto the Extendo Trail and after a quick lunch we circled back to the trailhead. Besides the Giant Trillium, I was able to add Bleeding Heart photos to my website album. A couple of flowers left us puzzled as to their idenity and we were not able to decide on the species of Delphinium we saw. Later, I was able to decide one of the puzzlers was Robert Geranium, and the Delphinium was Columbia Delphinium.
