Location  Stahlman Point Hike

Where:  Detroit Ranger District, Willamette National Forest

Wanting to get in a nice hike, take in some fall colors, and try out my new Olympus C-730 camera, I choose Stahlman Point. It's an old favorite of mine having hiked it when I first joined the Chemeketans in the fall of 1974. I still remember the fantastic view from the top with the vivid bright yellow maple and cottonwoods at Idanah, and Mt Jefferson looming in the background with a fresh coating of snow. We didn't hit it quite like that this trip, Mt Jefferson has not got her snow yet, the cottonwoods have yet to turn, and there was a haze in the air. But we did get in a good hike enjoying the congeniality as always with our good friend John Stolting, and taking in the brilliant red fall colors of the vine maple. Statistics for the day: distance 5 miles, time 3 hours, cumulative climb 1360 ft.
