Location  Memaloose Hills Hike

Where:  Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area

..."This is a 'Friends of the Columbia Gorge' hike, led by Nancy Russell and Russ Jolley. We met at the Gateway Park & Ride at 8:00am and then again at the east bound Memaloose Rest Area 9:30am. We started up an old road and hiked up and across Rd 30 and then up Hudson Hill, which bears that name because it once had a Hudson brand light for navigation on it. It is to be renamed McClure."

..."Then on to Castilleja Hill. Major fields of Arrow Leaf Balsamroot combined with large Indian Paintbrush, and Giant Lupine."

hikers on Castilleja Hill

..."After lunch in a protected area, hike some open grassland to an unnamed hill on Nancy Russell's 40 acre property. Then a descent back, only to be caught in a tremendous rain and hail storm just after crossing Hwy 30. On back to car. Stopped for ice cream in Mosier @ Hwy 30."
Hiking distance 6 miles, duration 4:15, cumulative climb 1300 ft.
