Location Denman Trail Hike |
Where: Kenneth Denman Wildlife Management Area |
We are spending the month of June volunteering for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife at their Kenneth Denman Wildlife Management Area near Medford. The wildlife area is large at almost 1,800 acres, but the Denman Trail is one of the very few official trails. It's also short at 1.5 miles, but as we learned it has much to offer.

Jeanette and Buster at the Trailhead The Denman Trail starts out by dipping down through a slough, and then climbs up through oak woodlands, to prairie grassland covered with wildflowers and a great view of Mt McLoughlin, and then it dips down again to a riparian zone along the Rogue River. |

Mt Mc Loughlin from Denman Trail Touvelle State Park adjoins the Denman Area here along the Rogue River. You have the option of hiking on into Touvelle State Park or looping back to circle back to the trailhead. We did both. We loved the variety of this trail, particularly the section along the river, and enjoyed some great birding. There is no doubt, we will be back.
