Location Bohemia National Recreation Trail Survey #2 |
Where: Cottage Grove Ranger District, Umpqua National Forest |
After being gone traveling since the 10th of June, it was time for me to get back to work surveying trails for the Cottage Grove District. I had been hampered with wet weather and low snow levels before I left, but now the snow level has go way up and the trails are snow free. Today's plan was to finish the Bohemia National Recreation Trail. I had Jeanette drop me off at the upper end at the Shane Saddle Trailhead, and then I hiked back 6 miles to where we had left off on May 16th. Jeanette took the car and met me at various places where the trail crosses the road.

Twin Rocks Shelter There are two primitive shelters along the trail, that I suspect were built by the CCC in the thirties, that provide some character to the trail. I doubt that I would chose to stay in them, they are usually prone to house rodents.

repairing a trail sign I always find a few things that I stop to fix along the way. Lots of times it removing limbs from the trail, here it was straightening a post and replacing a part of the sign that had fallen off.

end of six miles of trail There were no blow downs on this section of the trail, so this was an easy survey trip in the sense that I didn't have to stop and photograph and document locations. |
