breakfast at Horsethief Lake State Park

Day two starts with breakfast in our campsite at Horsethief Lake State Park. We are packed up and ready to roll by 8:30. It's a one-mile climb of 220 feet of elevation gain to get out of the park back up to Washington State Highway 14.

climbing up out of Horsethief Lake State Park

We take a break at Mary Hill Museum at 10:30. Great descent down to Maryhill State Park and Peach Beach RV Park. At the Washington State Information Center we are both hungry and worried about the bridge, but its not that bad. Biggs Junction 11:30 we have hamburgers and buy some supplies. Take Highway 30 from Biggs to the Deschutes River, and on to Celillo Rest Area. Although posted for no camping lots of people are. Stop in The Dalles at 3:00 at the High School to visit Pam Hubble a friend of Jeanette's. Albertson's provides food and film. It's 4:00 and 88 degrees. We are hot and tired and camp is still an hour away into a head wind. Make a poor choice of Highway 84 for speed as opposed to old Highway 30, which would have been shaded, scenic, and sheltered.

Memaloose State Park 5:15, 55 miles for the day

Memaloose is a haven---cool grassy sites. Great vistas of the Columbia, trains, boats. Lots of wind surfers.

Dinner late-----tired to bed
