Location  Bohemia National Recreation Trail Survey

Where:  Cottage Grove Ranger District, Umpqua National Forest

Snow has been melting at a good pace and I was able to move my trail surveying up to some higher elevation trails. Today we started on the lower end of the Bohemia National Recreation Trail from its western terminus at China Saddle.

Jeanette scraped some moss off some old trail signs to discover that evidently this trail has also been called the High Divide Trail. It makes sense, as this ridgeline of the Calapooya Mountains forms the divide between the Willamette and Umpqua River watersheds.

We were astounded at the number of blooming Fawn Lilies we found. There were so many on the trail that we could not help stepping on some. There were a lot of additional wildflowers as well; Western Trillium, Spring Queen, Calypso Orchid, Wood Violet, Sorrel, and Toothwort.

Our turn around point was where the trail intersects FS Rd #2358, two and a quarter miles from our starting point at China Saddle. Over all the trail was in great shape, only two small blow downs. Biggest disappointment was the work of vandals who had removed the trailhead sign with chainsaws.
