Date: April 25, 2010 | Location Lower Crawfish Trail Survey | Where: Cottage Grove Ranger District, Umpqua National Forest | Because the Crawfish Trail is over 5 miles long with a gain of some 3,200 in elevation, I plan on surveying it in several segments. This trip is a start from the lower end on the Brice Creek Road.
| | erosion damage Of the trails I have survey at this point, this trail shows the most mountain bike use, in fact I would say mountain bikers probably account for 99% of the trail use.
| | log obstruction Although we saw a lot of erosion damage, we only found one blow down across the trail.
| | back at the trailhead We stopped where the trail intersects road number 2263, which was about a mile and a half with about 1,000 ft of climb. We had lunch, and returned back to Brice Creek Road. On the way back we tried to piece together the puzzle of trails, old roads, and newly constructed trails. Lack of signage on this section makes for a good deal of confusion. |
