Date: December 30, 2009 | Location Mohave Sunset Trail | Where: Lake Havasu State Park, Arizona | Last winter when we served as volunteer hosts at Lake Havasu State Park we hiked the Mohave Sunset Trail several times a week. We always enjoyed it and in particularly the sighting of a variety of birds. (See Trip Journal here) On this hike we combined a trip to Lake Havasu City for some shopping and visiting, with a hike on the Mohave Sunset Trail designed to give us, particularly Buster, a chance to stretch our legs.
| | House Finch We say lots of Gambel's Quail even before we got on the trail proper. While on the trail we saw a shy Bushtit, and also this House Finch. After turning around and starting back to the car I was somewhat puzzled that we had not seen more birds. Then we spotted the silhouette of this vigilant Coopers Hawk and it was immeaditly clear why the smaller birds had been so scarce. | | Cooper's Hawk |
