Location  Brice Creek Trail Hike

Where:  Cottage Grove Ranger District, Umpqua National Forest

When you combine exercise, an outdoor activity, and companionship on the same day, it's bound to be a good one. This is just what happened on this trip, our friend Eddie Harrod joined us for a hike on the Brice Creek Trail.

The first part of the hike looked more like a photo club outing than a hike. We stopped numerous times to catch the rays of sun in the morning mist, scenes of rock and water, and mushrooms of every description.

Eventually we got back to the hiking part, although it had more the sound of a gabfest. Still, we enjoyed the fall colors, the green ferns and moss, the turning golden leaves and the background roar of Brice Creek.

We made Lund Park Campground our lunch stop and turn around point, giving us a five-mile hike for the day. I was able to add three new mushrooms to my database: Golden Coral, Earth Tongue, and Fluted White Elfin Saddle.
