As an introductory promotion, McDonalds was giving out FREE Coffee Lattés on this Friday. When we heard this on TV early on Thursday evening, I might have suggested how foolish it would be to drive 35 miles for a free latte. When we ended up going hiking on Friday and driving through Reedsport, we realized we would be going right past a McDonalds. What a good way to start a hike!

I had picked the Tahkenitch Creek Trail for our hike, but arriving at the trailhead we found it closed due to trail work. My guess is that they are replacing the bridge. We choose instead the nearby Tahkenitch Dunes Trail.

The first part of the Tahkenitch Dunes Trail is through thick coastal forest where trees have taken on some interesting forms in their fight against the wind and for space and light.

Our turn around point for this morning's hike was the view point over looking the Snowy Plover protected area. |
