Where:  Ice Lake to West Fork Wallowa River

This morning Pete, John Darcy and Andy catch a quick breakfast, stuff daypacks, and head for the summits of the Matterhorn and Sacajawea. I have elected to stay in camp and relax, do washing, and write. It feels good to ease off. I have been either hiking or fishing all week. The others have had lots of relax time in camp. Darcy asked me last night if I was hyperactive. Betsy also stays down as the combo of the climb and the decent back to the junction in the afternoon sounds like too much. So, I am set up down at the lakeshore to breakfast and write. With pancakes, huckleberry jam and coffee I watch the climbing party as they make their way up out of the basin. Then I soak in the morning sun, indulge myself with private time and my journal.

Climbers are back by 11:15, having left at 7:00. They summited the Matterhorn by 9:00, then on to Sacajawea and down. We break camp at 2:15 and hike back to the bridge campsite. Catch 10.5 inch rainbow trout, keep 3, which I eat and share.

Statistics for the day:

Distance : 5.5
Descent : 2349 feet
