A Day Off

Well, it has finally happened----we have stopped to take a day off!! We're in Pismo Beach and it's an easy place to spend some extra time. We got here yesterday afternoon, the combination of winter rates and Sunday night, made it quite inexpensive. With a pool to enjoy, cheap rates, the beach and lots of little shops it was easy to say, "Hey let's stay an extra day." The fact that my body was crying "enough already" might have had something to do with it also.

Yesterday we stopped for lunch at Laguna Lake Park in San Louis Obispo. There a neighboring picnicker, drawn by curiosity, came over to talk with us. In the process of getting local information from him we got a great tip---he said to be sure and stop at The Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach and have their clam chowder served in a bread bowl, it's a local tradition. He was right on---it gave us a unique experience in this area that we would probably not have found or chosen otherwise. It's a cramped little café and people line up clear out the door and onto the sidewalk to order. For $4.95 you get a round loaf of sour dough bread, hollowed out and filled with the most delicious creamy clam chowder ever.

Today we have slept in, walked to neighboring Grover Beach to check the AMTRAK station, gotten haircuts, picked up some reading material and are laying low for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow... Lompoc.
