Where Shall We Go Today?
When we awoke this morning it occurred to us that we COULD go anywhere. We are not on a schedule or time table (except to see Bud, Lisa & William at Thanksgiving.) So we pulled out the San Francisco telephone book and started calling for train, bus, ferry and BART schedules. By 9:00 we were fed, dressed, packed and departed our gracious guest home of the past two days.
We had decided to take the ferry to Alameda and visit Virg & Rose Ayen, Jim's former in-laws.
As we cycled through morning traffic we learned quickly how to maneuver without our guides - Ed or Bunni to help us. We were both pleased to discover how quick and user friendly the bike lanes and traffic are in The City.
We found the proper terminal after a few frustrating minutes in the ferry building. Then we were two of only 5 total passengers who sailed to Alameda/Oakland at 10:50.
It was a quick ride from the Alameda ferry dock to Harbor Bay. We had a wonderful visit and lunch with Virg and got a couple minutes to talk to Rose before returning to San Francisco by bicycle and ferry.
Now we are riding south on a commuter train to Gilroy, CA. There were some problems with the alternate routes south from San Francisco along the coast, so we are going to try this route - cycling from Gilroy to Watsonville and then south again along the Pacific shore.
