 Monday - Jeanette writes

Our writing has diminished to a mere trickle since we hit civilization and started doing home stays! :o) :o) Not that we don't love it, but we are so accustomed to sending a daily message that it feels wrong to miss even one day.

The ride from Santa Rosa to Olema was extra tuff for me. (Jeanette) I may have neglected to drink enough water, and starting out with early morning warm temperatures didn't help.

I drooped a lot when we made camp and just coasted through dinner. By morning (with the return of cold temperatures) I got back to enjoying riding again. Sally carried our gear as Ed guided us through Marin County and over the Golden Gate Bridge. We rode very light bikes for 46 miles. With a long breakfast, late start, leisurely lunch and a shopping trip at Marin Cyclery, we didn't arrive here till about 4:00.

Last night we enjoyed a wonderful southwest vegetarian dinner prepared by Sally & Ed with appetizers and desert provided by other guests. We talked trips, touring and swapped bicycle stories till we couldn't keep our eyes open any longer.

Jim & I slept long and well, while Ed & Sally were up at the crack of dawn to get to work.

Today was a resting day for us. Jim replaced handlebar tape on both our bikes and put a longer stem on his handlebar. I did some laundry then we ventured into the city on foot.

Ed & Sally live in a wonderful community of artists who each have living space in a converted warehouse. It is only a few blocks to a big shopping center with a Safeway store, a bagel shop and film for our camera.

Then my sons, Sean and Tony, came by to pick us up. We had lunch at Tony's music studio with living quarters in the loft. Next we drove to the San Carlos airport to check out an airplane that Sean is working on and taking some flights in. He just signed up for ground school in November and hopes to get a pilot's license.

We are going out with them for all you can eat pizza tonight and tomorrow we will head for Half Moon Bay.

I predict that we will be back into our normal reporting schedule by Wednesday or Thursday.
