This morning neither of us sprang out of bed anxious for the road. Finally when we did start riding, our legs had no power. Everything ached. Our bodies cried for a day off, but our minds could not give permission. We have miles to go. The end too far to visualize. We can however, allow ourselves shorter mileage days, and this was today's plan. Be that as it may, the early miles were a real struggle. It was only after a leisurely afternoon in Port Orford that we felt revitalized.
We stopped in Port Orford for lunch & desert. Took the extra time we knew we had to do laundry. I propped myself outside against the south wall of the laundromat and let the sun bake my whole body, engrossed in my reading of "The Loop". Jeanette shopped for dinner.
Leaving town for Humbug Mountain State Park, we were treated to views that you always dream of. The ocean the bluest we have seen. Large kelp beds lolled on the smooth surface. White breakers rolling onto deserted beaches. We lost track of speed and distance, proper pedal cadence was forgotten, gear selection unnoticed---there was only the vast Pacific, empty beaches, and Humbug Mountain.
