"Today was glorious! I have a difficult time explaining to myself or to you, how that can be. We had rain, head winds, road construction and two big hills. Never the less it was a super day of bicycle touring.
Last night the rain poured buckets while we were safe, warm and dry in the yurt. The last rainsquall ended about 6:30 AM. After that we had light showers off and on, but nothing to keep us indoors.
We only traveled 40 miles today so there was plenty of time to stop for "second breakfast" at the Pancake Mill in North Bend. There we enjoyed pleasant conversation with two couples from the Los Angeles area. They drove RV's to Portland and combined vacation with running in the Portland Marathon.
The big hills between Coos Bay and Bandon were pleasant because road construction crews had cordoned off the right lane with orange cones. We got to ride for miles and miles on freshly swept lanes with no thought of traffic anywhere near our path.
Bullard Beach campground near Bandon has yurts too!! Even though the weather looks very promising (i.e. clear skies at sunset) we are yurting again tonight and maybe even tomorrow at Hum Bug. Having electric light, a couch, a bed and ALL THIS SPACE for about twice the cost of a campsite is wonderful.
Just it case you might think that we are turning soft... getting spoiled by this high living... let me confirm that it is so. Tonight we dined at a fine restaurant on the waterfront in Bandon - delicious dinners and two deserts (one each.) I like this trip.
We have been riding our bikes, "one day at a time." Enjoying or coping with each day as it occurs. Now we notice that we nearing the midpoint between Canada and Mexico. Two days to California."
