"Today was a perfect touring day. We started with breakfast in the grand and historic Quinault Lodge. Then we rode out of mountain mist into warm sunshine. We rolled along with a good tailwind, bunched into a mini pace line which made the miles fly by.
At Ocean City we stopped at a mom & pop cafe and enjoyed fresh deli sandwiches and orange juice as we lounged in the sun.
Arriving at Ocean Shores we took a small passenger ferry across Gray's Harbor to Westport. The thrill of the day was the ferry stopping for us to watch gray whales surfacing near our boat. The size of these creatures is quite impressive.
We are camped tonight at Twin Harbors State Park. After several dinners out is nice to cook dinner in camp.
Tomorrow we ride down the Washington coast to Willapa Bay and Bush Pacific County Park, or more probably the KOA next to it as they have hot showers - one of the great rewards for a bike tourist.
If these notes some times appear a little disjointed please bear in mind that they are usually put together in not the best conditions--like now hunched over a picnic table in the fading light of evening."
