Location Threemile Lake Hike |
Where: Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area |
Faithful readers of the Trip Journal will have noticed the lack of new entries for some time. The reason is that I have been out of commission for five weeks now with a cold and bad chest congestion. Today I am feeling better and we unexpectedly found ourselves with a free schedule, Jeanette suggested that maybe we could do some thing fun---like go for a hike, I quickly agreed. Looking for a spur of the moment hike, close by, and easy to do, I consulted Cascade Ramblings and noticed the Threemile South Trail was one that we had yet to hike.

start of the trail The Threemile South Trail #1356, save for the simple 'Hiker Trail' sign, lacks any signage to indicate the trail or the destination. It is however, the shortest route to Threemile Lake at about one mile, compared to the Threemile Lake trail from the North that is three miles in length.

crossing Threemile Creek It felt good to be hiking again and we found the trail pleasant to hike as it wound its way through thick coastal forest. At several wet areas we spotted beautiful Great Blue Herons.

arriving at Threemile Lake Arriving at the lake we walked out onto a pleasant sandy beach. There was a pretty good breeze blowing, so we skirted around the side for a sheltered spot to stop and enjoy our lunch. |
