Date: February 1, 2007 | Location South Slough Hike | Where: South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve | We have continued to enjoy days of full sunshine on the Oregon coast as I have recouped from a bad cold. My plan for the day was to explore the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve south of Charleston. Now that I have some energy back, Jeanette has come down with the cold. Our roles reversed today, and while she took it easy in the motor home, I took Buster hiking.
| | There are a lot of trails and options at the South Slough Reserve, from the short '10 Minute' interpretive trail, to a series of longer connecting trails that access South Slough. We started at the Interpretive Center, took the Ten Minute Trail to its connection to the Middle Creek Trail, hooked up with the Hidden Creek Trail which took us down to Hidden Creek Marsh.
| | Hidden Creek Trail From Hidden Creek Marsh we took the Tunnel Trail to Sloughside Marsh where we paused at an observation platform for lunch. Our return route was via the Timber Trail, a section of the Hidden Creek Trail and the access road, giving us a three-mile hike.
