Driving back home last Wednesday from our Sutton Trails Hike we pulled into the Oregon Dunes Overlook and discovered that there were hiking trails here. On our next clear day it was an easy decision to come back and explore these trails.

From the upper viewing deck we hiked through the sand dunes and dense shore pine forest taking the Oregon Dunes Overlook Trail to the beach. Continuing south on the beach, we passed huge mounds of seaweed brought in from the recent storms and enjoyed watched crashing waves, and quick scuttling Sanderlings.

We returned on the Tahkenitch Creek Loop Trail and discovered that we had to look very carefully for the posts that mark the route on this ever-changing sand environment to find our way back.
