Date: December 8, 2006 | Location Sutton Trails Hike | Where: Siuslaw National Forest | | Buster -- ready to start There are many ways to start hiking on the Sutton Trails. For this trip I choose to start at Sutton Lake itself at the boat ramp right off Highway 101. The trailhead is unmarked here, save for a bench. From the bench we took an unmarked path that led under the highway bridge over Sutton Creek. This path became more of a trail as it followed the twisting route of Sutton Creek.
| | Buster, Janet, & Jeanette on the trail Entering the campground area we stayed to the right and hiked up through the sand dunes. We continued right at each junction and eventually reached the western trailhead and Holman Vista where we paused for lunch.
| | Jeanette & Janet at Holman Vista Our return route took us along the southern side of Sutton Creek, and through the campgrounds, across the creek and back to the car, for a total of 5.5 miles. Although overcast, we had a completely dry day.
