Location  The Dalles Riverfront Trail Hike

Where:  The Dalles, Oregon

We happened to find this trail quite by accident. Trying to avoid the snow on the hills we had spent some time looking at the Lewis and Clark Exhibit at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center. Before leaving we decided to take Buster on a walk on a paved path we spotted winding towards the river. Turned out to be quite a find.

This was Buster's second hike, and by making it to the one-mile mark and back, he now has a two-mile hike under his harness.

We hiked as far as Taylor Lake, and enjoyed spotting Bluebirds, Ground Squirrels, American Coots, and American Wigeons. This is a trail we plan on returning to for wildflowers as well as more bird watching.

This 12 foot wide asphalt path begins at the outdoor display area at the Discovery Center, snakes down the hill under the railroad tracks, through the Crates Point Wildlife Area, past Taylor Lake, along the Columbia River, over Chenoweth Creek, past the Lewis and Clark camp site of Rock Fort, past downtown of The Dalles and eventually will connect with The Dalles Dam, for a total distance of 9 ½ miles when completed.
