Location  Pinellas Trail Bike

Where:  Palm Harbor, Florida

Jeanette and I picked Sherwood Forest RV Park in Palm Harbor to camp in because it was listed as being on the Pinellas Trail. Not knowing anything about the trail, except that it was paved and 34 miles in length, we took off on the bikes on Sunday morning on an exploration trip.

We were surprised to see a speed limit for the trail of 20 miles per hour. I don't recall ever seeing a speed limit on a bike trail before. However, when a Sunday morning riding club came speeding past, it all made sense.

We got off the trail to check out Crystal Beach with its quaint homes, park benches, and anchored sail boats. We got of the trail again at the north end at Tarpon Springs to see the white sand beaches of Howard Park.

We found the Pinellas Trail a delight to ride. It's an urban trail that ties many communities together from Tarpon Springs in the north to St. Petersburg on the south. Because it is located in the densely populated Tampa Bay Area, it is a real oasis for cyclists allowing access to many parks and towns along the scenic coastline. More about the Pinellas Trail.
