Date: July 15, 2004 | Location Santiam Lake Backpack - Day 1 | Where: Duffy Lake Trailhead to Santiam Lake | My original plan was to backpack into Jorn Lake, but as the knowledge of the B & B Fire sunk in, and after seeing Banjo Bill's photos of Santiam Lake and realizing Santiam Lake was untouched by the fire, I changed our destination for camping to Santiam Lake with a side trip to the Jorn Lake area on the second day. Friend Ron Noble accompanied us on this trip, sort of testing the waters to see if he likes backpacking.
| | Ron & Jeanette at Duffy Lake We started at the Duffy Lake Trailhead and hiked the Duffy Lake Trail to Duffy Lake, where we turned south, taking the Santiam Lake Trail we climbed up to Santiam Lake. At the lake we plunked down to enjoy lunch and a fantastic view of Three Fingered Jack before selecting a nice shaded campsite along the south shore.
| | Lunch at Santiam Lake The lake was warm and I waded in to give myself more back casting space. Only a few rises, but I did manage a couple of trout to add to our dinner.
