Date: July 11, 2004 | Location Booth Lake Hiking | Where: Mt Jefferson Wildnerness | This was actually a fishing trip to Booth Lake with rod, reel, flies, raft, the whole thing, but as the fish catching was nonexistent,---- I am calling it a hiking trip. As a hiking trip it was very interesting to see the results after the B & B Complex Fire of this past summer.
| | As we started hiking in on the trail, one of the things that immediately caught my attention was how unaffected the trail was by the fire. Trees, brush and the duff of the forest floor burned, but the bare dirt of the trodden path seemed untouched. Bordering the trail stubborn Bear Grass sprouted green.
| | Bracken Fern was making major headway over barren ground on the hillsides. We found the terrain much changed, with wonderful vistas now available of Hoodoo, Mt Washington and the Three Sisters.
| | Booth Lake The real story of the trip were the wildflowers. Not having to compete with trees for sunshine, they appear to be having a banner year.
| | Fireweed | | Mountain Thistle | | Bear Grass at Square Lake |
