Date: December 22, 2002 | Location South Loop Ski | Where: Ray Benson Sno-Park | This is a Chemeketan Cross-Country Ski Trip led by John Stolting. Because of the scarcity of snow yet this season the decision was to ski at the top of the Santiam Pass from the Ray Benson Snow Park. Arriving at 10:30 we were as usual some of the first skiers out, which meant we spent most of the day trying to follow a few freshly broken tracks. Dark over-cast skies made for poor photo conditions, but I always enjoy the beauty of the early snow, with the trees burdened down with all the new fresh stuff. We paused for lunch at the Brandenburg Shelter and then with some effort (blue diamonds where hard to find) found our way back to Ray Benson which by afternoon was a complete circus of skiers, and snowmobilers with all their obnoxious equipment. | | leader -- John Stolting | | Brandenburg Shelter | | John, Pat, & Don | | Trail Map |
