Common Name:Owl, American Barn
Scientific Name:Tyto alba
Family:Tytonidae
Area:Dallas Retirement Village - Dallas, Oregon
Date:April 22, 2025

As of 2024, our Barn Owl is now known as the American Barn Owl. I found this owl by following up on some owl pellets that I found outside of The Lodge that we live in at the Dallas Retirement Village. Next came a text from a neighbor at 9:30 at night about a large white owl she had seen at her balcony. After half dozen middle of the night trips to try and find and get a photograph, I finally was successful at 4:00 in the morning to get this photo. This appears to be its night-time perching spot after catching mice in the field across the street. Come daylight, it takes off to roost for the day in a dark hidden location.
