Common Name:Sapsucker, Yellow-bellied
Scientific Name:Sphyrapicus varius
Family:Picidae (Woodpeckers)
Area:Lake Havasu State Park, Arizona
Date:January 25, 2013

Yellow-bellied and Red-naped Sapsuckers look very much alike. Note the red throat of this male is bordered by an obvious solid black frame, which the Red-naped lacks. Also notice in the lower photo the absence of the red patch on the back or nape of the neck that the Red-naped has.
