A first glance clue to identify a male Costa's is the purple iridescent coloring as opposed to the rosy coloring of the Anna's, and the Costa's has longer gorgets (side beards) than the Anna's. Also the tail does not extent past the wing tips as it does on the Anna's. Female shown below in second photo.
