Common Name:Gadwall
Scientific Name:Anas strepera
Family:Anatidae
Area:Lyons City Park - Lyons, Oregon
Date:November 12, 2012

The male Gadwall, as shown above, is a little unusual among male ducks, in that they are so grab in color. Look for the black bill and butt for a quick identification tip. The female is shown in the lower photo and can easily be confused with a female Mallard. Fortunately both Gadwalls and Mallards for the most part hang out as pairs, making it easier to identify the females.
